In the name of God the Merciful, the Forgiving

On behalf of the Muslim community of State College, we would like to express our shock, sorrow, and condemnation of the murder of 50 people on the morning of Sunday, June 12, 2016,  in Orlando, Florida.

The Qur’an, Islam’s revealed text, states: “Whoever kills a person [unjustly]…it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.” (Qur’an, 5:32)

Islam teaches us to act in a caring manner to all of God’s creation.

Like everyone else, we are searching for answers and trying to understand why and how this happened, and what caused it to reach this point.

Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences are with the families of the deceased and the injured.

Especially during this month of Ramadan, a time of deep spirituality, compassion, self-control, and generosity, we are horrified by this action.

As proud Americans, we reiterate our commitment to peace, safety, and security of our nation, as well as our solidarity with fellow Americans.
